The Axanthic is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. Description
Axanthic is a recessive mutation in which red and yellow pigmentation is absent. As a result, the colouration mainly consists of white, grey and black tones. The belly also lacks yellow, red and orange pigmentation. The contrast between background and pattern remains visible but without warm colours. As the animal ages, many specimens develop a darker grey appearance. Some individuals may also display lighter brownish tones. Axanthic is commonly combined with other morphs because of its strong effect on colour expression. The morph is recognised by its cool colour palette without red or yellow pigments.
