Western hognose snake (Heterodon nasicus) Blucifer
The Blucifer is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. Description
Blucifer is a combination of the recessive Sable mutation and the homozygous incomplete dominant Superarctic mutation. As hatchlings, these snakes usually display a velvet brown colouration. As the animal matures, the background gradually develops into greyer tones with a darker overall cast. With additional sheds, more purple and pink hues can become visible throughout the overall appearance. The influence of Superarctic also creates a lighter background colour and strong contrast within the remaining pattern. The combination of both mutations results in a colouration that continues to develop noticeably as the animal ages.
