Western hognose snake (Heterodon nasicus) Candy
The Candy is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. On this page you can learn more about the characteristics of the candy morph. For detailed information about care and housing, please refer to our comprehensive care sheet.
Description
Candy is a combination of the recessive Toffeebelly mutation and the homozygous incomplete dominant Superconda mutation. The Toffeebelly mutation produces a light golden-brown to yellow-brown colouration with variations that can include green, red, orange and yellow tones. The Superconda mutation removes the dorsal pattern almost completely, resulting in a generally uniform appearance along the back. The belly is typically solid in colour. Combining these mutations creates a snake with a light overall appearance and minimal visible patterning. Individual specimens can vary in colour intensity, contrast and the amount of remaining visible markings.
