Western hognose snake (Heterodon nasicus) Platinum
The Platinum is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. On this page you can learn more about the characteristics of the platinum morph. For detailed information about care and housing, please refer to our comprehensive care sheet.
Description
The Arctic Superconda is a combination of the heterozygous incomplete dominant Arctic mutation and the homozygous incomplete dominant Superconda mutation. The Superconda mutation removes the dorsal pattern, while the Arctic influence can be recognised through its lighter appearance and contrasting head markings. Arctic animals are known for the dark borders around their pattern elements and their visible eyebrows. In an Arctic Superconda, the pattern is largely restricted to the head, while the body remains mostly patternless. This results in a morph with a clean overall appearance and a clear contrast between the remaining head pattern and the base colour.
