The Stormcloud is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. Description
Stormcloud is a combination of the recessive sable mutation and the recessive axanthic mutation. This combination usually hatches with a blue-grey to grey base colour and dark to black saddles. As the animal ages, part of the blue tone gradually fades. The saddles often become darker brown to black over time. Combining sable and axanthic creates a morph with cool grey tones and contrasting patterning. The overall appearance changes noticeably with age, especially in the reduction of blue tones and the darkening of the dorsal pattern.
