Western hognose snake (Heterodon nasicus) Subzero
The Subzero is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. Description
Subzero is a combination of the recessive amelanistic Albino mutation and the homozygous incomplete dominant Superarctic mutation. Due to the absence of melanin, this combination develops a pink to light purple colouration with solid red eyes. The influence of Superarctic creates strong contrast and a noticeable colour change during growth and shedding. The belly usually has a pink, partially translucent appearance. Some specimens display purple patches or stripes along the back. Compared to regular Albino combinations, the background colour often appears cooler and lighter. The intensity of colour, contrast and pattern may vary between individual specimens.
