The Superarctic Anaconda is a unique variation of the Western Hognose Snake (Heterodon nasicus). Thanks to its distinctive appearance and active character, this species has remained one of the most popular snakes in the hobby. Description
Superarctic Anaconda is a combination of the homozygous incomplete dominant superarctic mutation and the heterozygous incomplete dominant anaconda mutation. This combination usually hatches very dark and changes noticeably in colour after the first sheds. The background develops into a white to light grey colour, while the pattern retains a high concentration of melanin. The anaconda mutation reduces the dorsal pattern, often resulting in arranged spots or a partially patternless back. The belly is generally solid black. Due to the influence of the superarctic mutation, the contrast between the background and pattern usually remains clearly visible.
